Arts&Heritage launches Blue Sky Museums

During the Covid-19 period, Arts&Heritage has initiated an ambitious new project, investing in the sheer audaciousness that artists often bring to contemporary projects – their imagination, and to support both artists and the museums we have a current relationship with.

Arts& Heritage have released the commissioning briefs of six museums that they have previously worked with and want to receive artist's ideas that are truly Blue Sky thinking.

Blue Sky Museums is not for those seeking funding for a project that will actually happen – but an opportunity for artists to propose fantastical responses to the museums, their collections, their stories and contexts.

Blue Sky Museums are looking for maximum creativity and want to receive imaginary proposals in visual, audio, film – or any other form we can display on our website.

A panel will select 25 bold, imaginative, Blue Sky thinking ideas and each artistic response we select to show online will receive £500, with a rolling set of deadlines.

There is a flyer available to download at the bottom of this page and for all further information, including all six museum briefs, please visit the Arts&Heritage website.

The 5 remaining deadlines are:

  • Shandy Hall - Deadline: 5pm, Friday 12 June
  • Workhouse Museum, Ripon - Deadline: 5pm, Friday 26 June
  • Lion Salt Works - Deadline: 5pm, Friday 10 July
  • Kelham Island Museum - Deadline: 5pm, Friday 24 July
  • Brontë Parsonage Museum - Deadline: 5pm, Friday 7 August
